Back in 2017, the toucanBox community took part in the Met Police Christmas Tree Appeal, purchasing boxes that would be gifted to children who get little or nothing for Christmas. The appeal was a great success, gifting 148 toucanBoxes to children. And so we were proud to ask our community again in 2018 for support.
Thanks to the enormous generosity of you, our community, 2018 was another huge success. You purchased nearly double the amount of boxes since last year, and we were thrilled to deliver 269 large toucanBoxes to our local Metropolitan Police for the appeal. Each box contained several arts and crafts projects and supplied, plus a picture book. For every box purchased exclusively for the appeal, toucanBox donated card games and sticker books, making Christmas that little bit more special for those less fortunate children.
Across several trips to Shepherds Bush Police Station, in West London, we filled the station with blue boxes, all ready to be hand delivered for a magical Christmas. It was a delightful surprise to see the same Sergeants from the year before organising the event.
All boxes purchased were given to children aged 3 to 8 years old. These children are currently cared for by foster parents, in residential care homes, in refuges, in hospitals, or are children from low-income families. All the gifts were delivered to the children before Christmas Day.
“Our mission at toucanBox is to make crafting and the arts accessible to as many children as possible, and through initiatives like this one, we truly make that happen. Although it runs for a few weeks each year, it really makes up the best part of my job”, said Marjolein Halfon, Project Manager at toucanBox.
Once again we want to offer a big thank you to every single family who contributed a toucanBox to this Appeal and look forward to continuing this wonderful charitable initiative in 2019.
